We are huge fans of California stockists, REDEMPTION, both for their ethos and their aesthetic! They recently produced a dreamy desert photoshoot featuring Manos Zapotecas bags, which they then shared on their Instagram account. We loved it so much, we named them winner of our quarterly wholesale photo contest!
We caught up with the couple behind the ethical and stylish brand to learn more about their business, and how they utilize social media to connect with their customers in a fresh way.

MZ: Tell us about REDEMPTION!
REDEMPTION was founded in 2015 by husband and wife team David and Tammy, through their desire to shop and support local products. Tammy has over 10 years managing retail businesses and wanted to open her own store, and David was able to move from Australia to help build the business, from concept to doors-open, in just three months.
The aim is to support and promote local California makers and products, by creating a space that gives each vendor a place to highlight their products and engage with customers as much as possible. Our aesthetic is natural and neutral with warm pops of color throughout the space.
How MZ fit in with your style and/or values?
We love MZ because they are a California-based fair trade company working with Oaxacan weavers, and the products they produce are beautiful and functional. The Zapotec designs and colors bring lovely highlights to our shop.
How does social media help you connect with your customers and other brands?
We find a lot of potential collaborators on IG and find it very useful as a way to research and connect. We also love the direct contact we can have with customers through social, and feel it helps promote the human side of what we do as we carry over our focus on customer connection and service from our brick and mortar, online.
Any tips for other brands on how to utilize social to boost sales?
Post stories everyday! We’ve only recently been fully utilizing the Instagram Stories feature, and have had some direct sales of items we’ve posted.
Anything else you'd like to share?
As a self-employed retailer, you need to be passionate about what you’re selling and the story you’re telling.
Thanks for sharing ours!
