To conjure up a taste of Oaxaca on a Friday night nothing quenches quite like mezcal, the artisanal alcohol from the agave plant. While the stuff is usually enjoyed sipped straight, we mixed up this sweet and sour margarita for a smoother approach.
APRICOT-LIME MEZCAL MARGARITA
WHAT YOU’LL NEED (makes 2)
4 oz. mezcal
2 oz. fresh lime juice
4 oz. apricot nectar
fresh lime for garnish
salt and pepper
HOW TO MAKE IT:
Combine the liquid and shake with ice to chill and dilute. (A Mason jar works wonders in place of a cocktail shaker.)
Using a wedge of lime, wet half of the rim of two glasses. Press the rim lightly to a plate of salt and pepper. Pour the margarita mix into the glasses and serve straight up with a slice of lime as garnish.
